I was filled with uncertainty of what I should do since I can choose any theme to work on. I have started to brainstorm on things like: real life issues that I think I would like to address using my art…
Brainstorming in progress….
As a commuter of public transport, I am constantly faced with the challenge of getting to around in a sandwiched packed train or bus. What has inspired me is the long escalator at buona vista mrt station. The escalator full of people rushing to work/ study has dawned on me that we are caught in this cycle of busyness of life- everyone is repeating the same routine of rushing. Is life all about rushing?
Execution:
In this, my idea is to create an angled installation- the picture of the commuters indicates an upward motion however the downward curve will show a stretch of the image of the commuter to indicate the cycle.

CLOSE
A word that that perhaps has two contrast meanings:
(1) Close: A short distance away or apart in space or time
(2) close one’s eyes to something and shut one’s eyes to something
Lit. to close one’s eyes to avoid seeing something unpleasant.
The news on a toddler was run over by two trucks and was ignored by the passers-by shocked me. A reflection of our society: are we becoming more self-centered and we choose to close our eyes to things that has nothing to do with us. I felt that it was very real to me and in fact I might be guilty of that too. Norm these days, on train, people are either glued to handphones or plugged to earphones. All the things that allowed us to be in our ‘own space’ rather than concern of what is happening around us.
Execution:
So I would like to do an artwork that is filled with many ‘close eye’-from as many people as I can find. I am thinking of using photography.
One of the way to present it is to do a huge mural work
Another way of representation is: I will make it into a cube. with all the side filled with close eyes.
But in both artworks, one thing that I would also include is a white space. With that, I would like to set the audience thinking- are their eyes close too?

Hands express feelings.
Through this idea, I would like to show a three part moves.
Comforting hands(warm); Clenching hands; downcast hands
I would like to exemplify emotional feelings using hands. I find that they can be a powerful tool to show how one feels and it’s universally understand.
Execution:
I am thinking of three canvas with pairs of hands. The colour on the individual canvas will intensify the gestures and the mood I want to portray. eg The hands that is downcast will be coupled by vertical lines that signifies a downward movement as well as bleak colour. The clenched fist will be coupled with handcuff to show a bondages to hatred and agitating lines on the canvas.
The canvases will fuse into the wall or the floor to signify the movement.
Through this I want to draw audience to reflect on our own gesture/feelings and perhaps our own heart.
